This summer our students had an opportunity to attend a Pottery Camp at SES. I am so excited to have gotten to teach this camp, the kids were rock-stars! Students spent each Monday for three weeks in a row working on their ceramic creations. The first Monday students worked with the clay to make a coil pot, pinch pot monster/fish, and a clay loom. After their pieces dried I was able to fire them in the kilns. The next Tuesday students glazed their pieces. They learned about how to apply glaze to pieces and how they would look once fired in the kiln. After their pieces were glazed I fired them in the kiln for the last time. The below images are from the last Monday of Pottery Camp. Students got to see their finished pieces. They then drew images of their pottery and we documented our artwork. Each child took pictures of their art and we reflected on our experience throughout camp. I cannot wait for the next pottery camp! Be sure to check out the images below to see some of the great pieces or art our students created. I know what you're thinking - IT'S JUNE! However, I am already preparing for the upcoming school year. I cannot wait to get this year started. I've spent a lot of time over the last twelve months learning about ceramics and how to fire our awesome kiln.
This year is the year students are going to be mastering pottery! Also, this year we will be hosting our Art Gala (you'll have to wait to find out the theme!). There is a lot of exciting things coming up in the SES art studio. I cannot wait to see all the smiling faces on the first day of school. We're going to have a great year full of creative projects! |
